How?

Cats should be brushed and combed twice weekly. To reduce shedding and knotting your cat should be combed with a metal comb (long hair) or a furminator (short hair), by starting at the back, pushing the hair backwards and combing with the grain, working towards the head. Don't forget the armpits and belly. Comb the belly by picking up the front legs and standing the cat up. Please do not put scissors or clippers to your cat unless shown how to do so by a professinal as you may do more harm then good.

What is professional grooming?

Professional grooming is by a Groomer that specialises in grooming cats. The groomer can tell when and if your cat is stressed and how to calm your cat as much as possible. It is not always possible to finish grooming a cat. Please accept your groomers advice if your cat becomes too stressed.

If your cat starts matting/knotting under the belly and armpits, your cat can get a 'brazilian' which also helps your cat be cool in summer.Cats build up winter coat to protect them from cold in winter, in spring and summer this coat sheds and if not removed will matt/knot or they will shed all year long.If you are finding it hard to keep up with the undercoat, to help reduce dust bunnies in your home, you may get a professional brush-out, lion clip or modified lion clip. Cats can even be clipped in winter due to having double coats.

Why?

Your cat may not be removing its own undercoat and oils, due to; excessive oils, excessive undercoat, old age, arthritis, being overweight, or being lazy.I can bath and blow-dry most cats to remove excessive oils and make your cat feel like a kitten again. Please do not put scissors to your cat as they cut easily.

When?

Cats should be groomed all year round. I recommend 3 full brush-outs a year, clipping 4 times a year and bathing depending on how much oil is present and how well your cat grooms itself. Bathing helps prevent matting by degreasing the coat.

Remember cats groom themselves by licking and putting saliva all over their coat, and this is why many people are alergic to them.
