What to use
I try and work with you and your pet to save you money and time. As a groomer it is a nicer experience for me and your dog if your dog is not matted and is use to the grooming process.
Follow these simple instructions to comb your pet less and for a better result.
How Often?
You should comb your pet at least once a week. Remember if you do not comb your pet (free), I must undo the amount of combing you haven't done in one grooming session (costs you more and your pet is more stressed.)
What tools?
The best product I use to de-matt and to prevent matting is a normal metal comb. I like a double tooth/double sided comb. I use the wider teeth to remove minor matting and the finer (closer together) teeth for everyday combing. I stock this product.
How to comb/brush
The way to comb depends on the length of hair.
-Hair under 1 cm, you can just comb over the top going with the coat. Going against the coat can cause knots. -Hair over 1cm (not including ears and tail), use your hands to part the coat, putting your hands against the coat and combing with the coat.
-With long ears, fan out the ear and comb down, flip the ear over and do the same. To double check the de-matting use a flea comb.-Tail- comb downwards from tail, to the ground.
Dogs should be bathed no less than three times a year and no more than fortnightly.
Professional Grooming
How often should my dog be professionally groomed?
It depends on the length of hair you would like to maintain and if you would like a breed clip.
Hair 1 cm and under (#3, #4, #5, #7, #10) Grooming is recommended every 8- 10 weeks.
Hair over 1cm up to 25mm and breed clips. it is recommended your dog is groomed every 4-6 weeks. The longer the hair is, the harder it would be to maintain and prevent matting.
Ask me what length your pet receives and what I recommend for you.
Nervous dogs should be groomed every 4 weeks until they become confident.
Tidy ups between grooms or instead of grooms are recommended. Even if you do not want any length off your pet you sill need their ears, nails, anal glands, bathing, eyes trimmed, feet trimmed and groin/armpits clipped.
I hope this all helps you to keep your pet looking forward to it's pampering even if it is not with me, I am always here to help you, your pet and your groomer.
